[edit]This page is titled 16th division. The menu at the bottom though, reports it as both 16th and 116th, and in fact the two names are both in bold. It's the same on other pages of German panzer divisions sporting the same menu. I don't know how to edit it in a good way... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ccontinisio (talk • contribs) 13:43, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- I believe that this is actually accurate - if you read the whole article it indicates that at a certain time the 16th Division was reformed as the 116th...I don't know enough about the topic to know if it is accurate or not, but the article seems to indicate the reason for the two numbers. Article needs reorganization...
[edit]I find the article a bit confusing as mentions several related units without a coherent storyline. I'll try to locate additional sources to improve the article's structure and content. Regards, DPdH (talk) 14:43, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
I found an online source (Axis History - Germany - Army divisions) where the evolution from 16th Inf Div to 116 Pz Div and the creation of 16th Pz Div is clearly explained. I'll try to locate additional bibliography to support this storyline, and start reorganizing the article following this path. Regards, DPdH (talk) 15:32, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
Proposal - un-merge 16th Panzer Division from this article
[edit]I realized that 16th Panzer Division redirects to this same article. Though the former was created from the latter, they are actually different units with diverse history and formation; moreover 2 units were created from the 16th Infantry Division. Hence I propose to create an article specific for the 16the Pz Div and reference to it from this one. This would improve the article's coherence and cohesion. Regards, DPdH (talk) 14:55, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
In support of this, I offer that 16th Infanterie Division was reconstituted in Oct. '44 in Lorraine. The 16th Luftwaffe Div. was wrecked in the retreat across France. They decided to disband the Luftwaffe divisions. The 16th Luftwaffe became 16th Infanterie. They would have made it 16th VG, but there was already a 16th VG Div. Sources, von Mellenthin's Panzer Battles and the US Army Green Books. (Similarly, 18th Luftwaffe, after disbanding, became 18th VG.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.217.126.8 (talk) 01:31, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
The War Crime portion of this article falsely claims that the 16. Mot Infantry Division (which was never deployed to Italy) took part in a massacre in Campania. Checking the linked sources, it seems this should point rather to the 16. Panzer Division, not the 16. Mot Infantry. The war crime section therefore should be removed from this article and moved to the 16. Panzer Div article rather? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.163.227.68 (talk) 11:56, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
