In an edit summary on 1 July 2022, an editor at 156.68.116.57 writes:

Polymele does not mean "many sheep". This is an incorrect and rather absurd interpretation started by this wikipedia page. The name derives from the same root as the English word melody and can be roughly translated as "many songs" or more fluently meaning someone with a beautiful singing voice, something much prized in females at that time. Women could not own property, so the idea of many sheep is silly. The reference to the nickname is a possible copyright infringement.

The "absurd interpretation" was not started by this page, but instead came from the Spaceflight Now article by Stephen Clark. I agree that if this is bad Greek, even absurd Greek, it is best omitted from the article. I do not speak Greek, so I will rely on 156.68.116.57's knowledge. I have restored the news, also reported by Stephen Clark, that the Lucy team refers to the satellite by the informal name "Shaun." Years are likely to pass before this object is assigned a formal name, so I expect the nickname will come up again from time to time as the Lucy spacecraft cruises toward its encounter with Polymele in 2027.

Mentioning this name does not constitute a copyright infringement; indeed, Wikipedia already has an entire article on the TV series Shaun the Sheep and more articles on films starring the character.
