External links, etc.
[edit]There are currently quite a number of external links being used like embedded citations in the article. This type of citation style is generally no longer considered acceptable per WP:CS#Avoid embedded links. I'm not sure how the three links to "photos" can be converted to inline citations; they probably should be removed outright per WP:ELNO and WP:RSCONTEXT. They might also be considered to be a copyright violation of some kind. The two pdf links in 14th Combat Support Hospital#Command Group can possibly be converted into inline citations, but I'm not sure if this information is even still current. Moreover, there doesn't seem to be need for this two person list, and it probably could be merged together with "Mission" and written as prose instead. So, I've tagged the article with {{external links}} and the "photos" with {{copyvio link}} just to let others no of these issues. I thought it would be best to post here and see if others have any suggestions before trying to fix things myself. Thanks in advance. - Marchjuly (talk) 01:29, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

- Thank you Bromley86 for taking care of that and for the other cleanup you did. I added a short introductory statement to the "Subordinate Units" section; Otherwise, there is only a footnote marker and no statement being cited. It's just was the first thing that popped into my head, so it most definitely can be re-written and expanded in to something better. - Marchjuly (talk) 00:57, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, I was having a brain freeze and couldn't see where else to sensibly put the cite. Should have thought to put a statement there! Bromley86 (talk) 09:04, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
- No worries Bromley86. You did all of the heavy lifting. My contribution was just a little clean up. The article does look better now than before. - Marchjuly (talk) 11:13, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Infobox flag icon
[edit]I'm not sure if the infobox flag icon is needed. Both WP:INFOBOXFLAG and WP:MILMOS#FLAGS say than using flag icons in infoboxes are generally not recommended. There is also an ongoing discussion at WT:MILHIST#Infobox flag icons about whether they are needed and all who have responded seem to think they are not. It is obvious from the country name United States that this is a U.S. military unit so the flag icon seems to be nothing but decoration. Normally, I would be bold and remove the icon, but I figured I'd discuss it here first to see how others feel and see if there are any good reasons for keeping the icon. Thanks in advance. - Marchjuly (talk) 11:22, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
- Agreed. I think it's generally accepted that Americans are more "flaggy" than average, which may explain why you see mini-flags in articles on 13th Airborne Division (United States) and Delta Force but not in People's Liberation Army Special Operations Forces & Special Air Service. Then again, there's Para (Indian Special Forces), so who knows. I'd remove it. Bromley86 (talk) 11:44, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
- OK. Maybe just wait a day or so to see if anyone else want to chime in? No rush in my opinion. - Marchjuly (talk) 12:23, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
- Your call. Normally I'd do it as soon as I see it, especially on a quiet article like this (someone can always revert it/add it back in). Didn't want to continue taking over though. Bromley86 (talk) 12:38, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
Buchenwald
[edit]My father-in-law was chaplain with 14th Field Hospital in WWII. He says they were sent to Buchenwald, arrived the day after tanks had rolled in. They reported to command that the medical needs far overwhelmed what they could deal with. Does anybody have documentation that the 14th was at Buchenwald to insert into this article?
