Requested move 8 July 2018

Not moved. Clear absence of consensus for the proposed move, and a well-stated argument for maintaining consistency with the supertopic Ōtemachi. bd2412 T 00:30, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
Ōtemachi Station (Tokyo) → Otemachi Station (Tokyo) – Remove unexplained diacritic. Diacritic not seen or utilized anywhere else, to my knowledge. Not even in Japanese spelling (Otemachi-eki). Quis separabit? 23:09, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose consistent with Ōtemachi and there to help readers pronounce Oh (big) In ictu oculi (talk) 15:59, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support The initial macron is not used English language sources. Just because it is in Wikipedia, doesn't make it true :). Anyway I think relevant policy to guide us is WP:ROMAJI, in particular determining common usage, which clearly points to (incorrectly) dropping the macron Alex Sims (talk) 12:25, 10 July 2018 (UTC)
- If the kana are indeed おおてまちえき as stated on jawiki, the macron should be used, at least in the transcription of the Japanese name. —innotata 01:39, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm not sure why my change to the lede was reverted; I didn't express any opinion about the title, just corrected the nihongo template so that it's performing the intended purposed, to transliterate the Japanese. Dekimasuよ! 02:22, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- The kana for the station can be seen here: tokyometro.jp. Dekimasuよ! 02:24, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose If we want to stop using macrons for (some) Japanese place names, or just for (some) stations, can we do it in a systematic way? (Noted by In octu oculi too.) Macrons are used now as a default to the standard transliteration of the native name when there's no overwhelming convention toward some other name (and this doesn't seem like an exceptional case). I can see there being a common-name argument for not using them, but making piecemeal changes to widespread conventions is unproductive. —innotata 02:42, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- We should be arguing about application of policy to this article, not the policy itself. WP:ROMAJI states that we should use the form prevalent in reliable sources. I can find plenty in abstracts from Google Scholar for the non-macron form, but none in the macron form. Alex Sims (talk) 06:05, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- Comment. I do not have an opinion on whether it should be diacritics in the name or not, but did not we at some point earlier this year move all Stations to stations (capital to usual)? If this is not an exception it probably should be moved as well.--Ymblanter (talk) 07:05, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- Not in Japan, as a rule (there has been some argument about Korea this year, where there was one station decapped over strong objections). Dekimasuよ! 09:59, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- I see, thanks. Good to know. It might be good to codify this somewhere unless it has already been done.--Ymblanter (talk) 10:01, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- I think the closest is at WP:MOS-JP#Train and subway stations, although it's possible there is conflicting guidance elsewhere. Dekimasuよ! 10:06, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- Great, thanks--Ymblanter (talk) 10:08, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
