A fact from Čabulītis appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 28 August 2007. The text of the entry was as follows:

Sorry to hear of Čabulītis passing. The Rīga zoo was in an extremely poor state when independence came, and Čabulītis' "home" was little better than the bathtubs used as "homes" for some of the snakes. Someone who watched the Soviet occupation come and go deserved better--and I'm happy to say Čabulītis lived well over his last years (one can tell by the Latvian name it's a "he") in the new tropical habitat exhibit. In fact, this is not joke. Is there something funny in this article? Compare this with: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustave_(crocodile) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pui_Pui_(crocodile) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweetheart_(crocodile) And so on..
- I'm going on good faith that Xil didn't create this article as an elaborate joke. If someone really wants it deleted, they can go to articles for deletion.-Wafulz (talk) 13:28, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
All factual. One of the longest lived (if not the longest) in captivity, symbolically survived the entire Soviet period of occupation, etc. etc. That some anon IP from Latvia marked it as a joke is litle more than vandalism. I guess someone didn't like their last visit to the zoo.
