The contents of the Āsh page were merged into Aush on 21 July 2018 and it now redirects there. For the contribution history and old versions of the merged article please see its history.
It's evident that Aush / Aash / Āsh can be found in many cuisines and apparently, political division lines had made their way to the pages related to Aush. Currently, there are two pages for this range of traditional soups: Āsh which explains about Iranian, Azerbaijani, Caucasian, and Turkish types of Aush and Aush for Afghani aushes. I don't see any reason for having these two pages separated and my understanding is that "Aush" should be the correct way of writing the word in English as it would not be read incorrectly and for English native speakers, it would not be confused with the English word "Ash". I think the confusing here is with the term - the words are the same, they both literally translate to "soup" but the meanings are not the same, based on different country of origin or even within the US. Iranian/Persian Āsh is not the same as Afghani Aush, the Afghani Aush has a tomato broth base and often times has different seasonings - the Iranian/Persian Āsh frequently has no tomatoes, no turmeric, and has barley, fresh herbs, etc. I am not opposed to merging the articles as long as someone does a good job of integrating the country/cultural differences between them and updates the term-usage most commonly used for that country. I will also note that in the West Coast area of the USA we don't often write "Aush" in English to describe the Iranian/Persian soup, this spelling Aush might be regional to specific English speaking areas.
