Many sources (Simek's Dictionary of Northern Mythology, Lindow's Norse mythology, Orchard's Dictionary of Norse Myth & Legend) agree that Óðrerir originally refers to the mead of poetry, claiming that in some sources Óðrerir "clearly refers to the mead itself" (Orchard). But, apart from the Eddas, the only occurrence of Óðrerir I've found is Óðrøris alda in Einarr skálaglamm's Vellekla. It doesn't seem to me that Óðrerir particularly refers to the mead rather than to a pot, all the less so that this kenning is nearly the same as Boðnar bára (also in Vellekla), and Boðn, as far as I know, only refers to a vat.
