I don't think he loses his 2000 medal. However, he is disqualified from this Olympics and all future events. Superm401 - Talk 16:03, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality!

[edit]

"He was clearly victim of racism." - where is the reference? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.131.29.113 (talk) 00:46, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A victim of the Swedish referee Chakir Chelbat? Those blasted racist Vikings! Those Swedes are so weird in their behaviour. Look at that Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian, who threw his medal away. Typical of the Swedes. --Humanophage (talk) 10:21, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, neutrality is urgently needed as currently there is a complete lack of anything in the article from his side of the tragedy. Mathmo Talk 16:57, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

video

[edit]

Does anyone know why you can't see this online. metacafe and youtube have both yanked their vid of this. Brad Zeak (talk) 04:25, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reuters has a slideshow, but no video. Blackngold29 04:26, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Olympic committee does not allow anybody other than the official broadcasters or its own website to broadcast Olympic clips. That's why you don't see Olympics footage on Sportscenter. CopaceticThought (talk) 06:06, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All Olympics footage is copyright by the IOC. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs 08:34, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Australians can view Olympic footage (including this incident) at the official Yahoo-7 site. I believe UK people can view it at the official BBC site. No idea about other regions, sorry.Manning (talk) 06:54, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6j7l6_cuban-olympic-taekwondo-angel-matos_sport Sorry, I can't format for crap, but this is an international video that won't be taken down. 129.130.137.71 (talk) 19:06, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Angel Matos Fuentes

[edit]

A lot of older sources use Angel Matos Fuentes for his name. I am adding it to the lede with refs. Jokestress (talk) 18:14, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Use of adverb "controversially"

[edit]

I deleted the adverb "controversially" from the sentence "... he was controversially disqualified". I have yet to see any sources that characterise his disqualification as controversial. (Other than the fact that the athlete and coach didn't like it). I glanced at about six or seven sources for a usage of the term "controversial" in reference to the disqualification and came up empty. One source (specifically the Yahoo.com video, only viewable in Australia sadly) went to great length to explain why it was in absolute accordance with the rules. If the usage of the term "controversial" can be properly referenced, then by all means put the term back in. I'm just trying to avoid bias in either direction.Manning (talk) 06:08, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this deletion. Weasel words are to be avoided on Wikipedia. CopaceticThought (talk) 06:54, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here you go, a couple of seconds with google turns up this: http://www.insidethegames.com/show-news.php?id=3295 There certainly is areas of dispute on many of the incidents in that fight. Mathmo Talk 04:07, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That article talks about controversy in the 67kg bronze medal match. It does not use the term in relation to the Matos incident.219.89.179.143 (talk) 04:53, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2008 "disqualified" in medal table?

[edit]

The medal table lists a "Disqualified" in the medal table for 80kg at Beijing. However, should this really be here? "Disqualified" implies that the athlete had won a medal at some point but later had it stripped, while Matos in fact never won a bronze medal - he was disqualified from the match that would have won him bronze, rather than being later disqualified from a bronze-medal match that he won. 173.88.88.117 (talk) 01:38, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The medal record table says Matos was disqualified at 2008 Beijing, which is correct. It doesn't state that any medal was stripped. However, the template used is Template:MedalDisqualified, which does not make a distinction between when someone is DQ'ed during a medal round and when someone's medal is stripped. I don't believe it's used in this manner elsewhere, though DQs are frequently listed in results tables. Jokestress (talk) 03:15, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
