Daniel Rocha Flash

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic.php?id=464059 This is a story about how a Newgrounds contibutor got his flash shown to Al by Matt Groening's son and how the guy might make future videos for Al. rather not shove it in, i'll leave that for the regular peeps.

Rare 9-0 Vote

This is a tiny point, but 9-0 votes in the Supreme Court are not rare, they are common. Lightbluebear 05:26, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

They're also irrelevant in an article about "Weird Al" Yankovic. Jwolfe 06:58, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Amazing Stories Appearance

If anyone would mind, please give the show of Amazing Stories he was on: Miss Stardust. I remember because I saw that episode recently and, after noticing the voice and appearance of the alien and reading this page, know that it is him.

I saw the episode yesterday (3/25/06) on Sci-fi. I had to come to the site, having been to the Weird Al page once before, to see if it was him. It was, but I had to change the "Brocolli-Headed" alien to "Cabbage-Headed" alien. Anyone who has seen it will know why.

List of songs

Removed lists of songs on this page, there is already a page set up to list songs by "Weird Al" Yankovic --Measure July 6, 2005 21:36 (UTC)

Is it really necessary to list out every band and every style parody here when there's a List of songs by "Weird Al" Yankovic that's more comprehensive and does the same thing? Would anyone object if I removed them and referred people to the list of songs? It's getting very difficult to read. -- Elvis 22:20, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Vegetarian or Vegan

"Recently in several interviews, Al has stated that he has switched to using vegetarian hot dogs due to becoming a vegetarian, but still enjoys them as his favorite snack. (He also likes to dip them in milk.) This can be seen in UHF."

I could have sworn that Al was a vegan, not just a vegetarian, and thus would not drink milk. I could be wrong though.

A search for the word "vegan" at the ask Al archives brings up a couple of quotes that seem to confirm implicitly that Al is a vegan. Al doesn't say he's a vegan, but he doesn't correct people who say he's a vegan. here's the link: http://www.weirdal.com/aaarchive.htm#090203 --Measure 23:03, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Although I understand the charm, Al may want to re-think the Twinkie part of his snack. Twinkies contain beef fat. Jackbox1971

Yugoslavia

Is he Croatian descent? --Sheynhertzגעשׁ״ך 10:16, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

The surname looks more Serbian or Bosnian to me. --shiidii

"The Saga Begins" album cover

Hey all, there's an album cover photo toward the Discography section which says it is for the Japanese compilation, "The Saga Begins". However, when you click on the picture, the caption says it is for the single "The Saga Begins", not the Japanese compilation album. Was the picture used for both, or is this is type-o of some sort? --Ataricodfish 17:29, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

  • It's the cover for the Japanese album, though it's understandable why it's mislabeled. The cover for the single is very similiar. They both use the same picture where the shadow is thumbing its nose at Al, but the lettering on the Japanese album is larger and spans the bottom of the whole cover. The lettering on the single is smaller and limited to the left half of the cover. -- Elvis 18:30, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Merge/split "Yankovic's songs"

I mentioned it above to no objections, but now I'll make it official suggestion. I think the main article for the "Yankovic's songs" section should be the List of songs by "Weird Al" Yankovic article. I don't think it's really necessary to get into so much detail here, especially with the obnoxiously long list of style parodies. Plus almost all of the same information is available on both pages. I think this section should include a link to the new suggested main article, and then maybe a paragraph at most about the types of songs al does (original, parody, polks, style parody, etc.) and the subjects he regularly covers (pop culture, food, television). The details should be on the articles for the individual songs. Most of them have articles now. Same for the details of the Coolio situation. Make a quick mention of it and send them people to the "Amish Paradise" article for more details. -- Elvis 16:58, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

I don't think the whole section should be merged. Much of it makes sense in this article, and adds to the understand of Weird Al as a person. Of course, the obnoxiously long list of style parodies should definately be merged, but I think much of this serves a useful purpose where it is. --Hetar 07:44, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
I agree, most of it is relevant to be here, sorry if I wasn't clear. There's just no need for so many examples, and it could be summed up more concisely. I'll see what I can do, then people can edit away at it. And to whoever removed the merge tag, look closer at the tag, the idea wasn't to merge the list of songs into this one, it's the other way around. -- Elvis 14:23, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
I was under the impression that there was no dicussion going on and that the merge was to this article from the list article. My apologies. I guess I go and put it back up unless it hasn't already done so. I removed it, not as an editor of this page, but as an editor trying to clear out the merge category and this one was the first one the list. My mistake. Pepsidrinka 18:07, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
No problem. :) And the merge has been taken care of already. -- Elvis 19:41, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Piano Player

"In 1992, Rubén Valtierra joined the band on keyboards, to allow Yankovic to concentrate more on singing during concerts."

"Ironically enough, Yankovic's first show with his entire band (excluding Rubén Valtierra who joined in 1991)"

Obviously very contradictory. Somebody should figure out which it is and fix it.

It's 1991. [1] --Elvis 21:59, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Serbian Diaspora

Anyone know why that's a category link at the bottom? I didn't want to remove it in case I was missing something, but that's not mentioned anywhere in the article itself. --Danalog June 29, 2005 08:43 (UTC)

It means "Serbian dispersal". It's a category of those of Serbian descent living around the world. At least that's what various references say. I ain't no Serbian, and never heard the term until today. It makes sense in this context if and only if Weird Al is of Serbian descent. --Wahkeenah 29 June 2005 09:11 (UTC)

Al was on Wikipedia's List of Serbs. However, a quick Google turns up almost four times as many hits on Yankovic Croatian as it does Yankovic Serbian with a third of the hits for the latter also being hits for the former. In the absence of documentary evidence, and based on a curosy glance on those hits, I'd be inclined to say that he's more likely a memeber of the Croatian diaspora than the Serbian. Given the history between the Serbs and Croats I'd be worried that claiming Wierd Al may have become another point of contention. Finally, Al's official website has the following to say on the subject:

What nationality is Al?
Al's grandparents on his father's side were Yugoslavian, and on his mother's side they were Italian and English.

In other words he certainly ain't a purebred Serb or Croat in any case and can best be described as a lovable American mutt. I'm going to remove that category here and his inclusion on the List of Serbs article. --Caerwine 19:09, 24 July 2005 (UTC)

If he was Serbian he would spell his last name "Jankovic" not "Yankovic." There is no "Y" in the Serbian language. The "J" is pronounced like a "Y." The "ic" at the end of his name is of Serbian descent.

The "Y" thing indicates nothing. Many immigrants to USA (in this case Al's father) modify the spelling of their name to make it easier for English speakers to pronounce it correctly. Modifying "ć" to "c" or "ch" is another common practice. I was born in Bosnia (then part of SFR Yugoslavia) and I've lived there for 17 years, and judging by his last name I'd say Al's father is Serbian. Janković (Yankovic) is a very common last name among the Serbs. I've never met, nor have I heard of a Croatian with that last name. 65.94.143.45 23:37, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
