The men's 100 metre backstroke competition of the swimming events at the 1959 Pan American Games took place on 1 September (preliminaires)[1][2] and 3 September (finals).[3] The last Pan American Games champion was Frank McKinney of US.[4][5][6][7][8]

This race consisted of two lengths of the pool, all in backstroke.[9]
