Suki Teenoi(Thai:สุกี้ตี๋น้อย) is a Thai restaurant chain specializing in affordable buffet-style suki. Founded in 2018 by Nuttamon Phisankitchawanit, Suki Teenoi became known for its affordable suki offerings, extended operating hours, and its choice of accessible locations.Within just three years, the chain expanded to 23 branches across Bangkok, According to bangkokbiznews, the restaurant generated revenue of 140 million baht by 2020.[1]

Etymology

[edit]

The name Suki Teenoi (สุกี้ตี๋น้อย) was selected for its simplicity and ease of recall, designed to be easy for customers to remember. In Thai, Suki refers to a popular style of hot pot, where diners cook various ingredients in a simmering broth at the table. This highlights the restaurant's focus on this beloved and interactive dining experience, a staple of Thai cuisine.[1]

Founder Nuttamon Phisankitchawanit selected the name not only to reflect the restaurant's culinary offering but also to honour her father’s influence on the business. Although her father does not bear the name "Tee" he is the youngest sibling in his family and was affectionately nicknamed "Tee," a common Thai nickname for the youngest or smallest member. He served as an important role model and guide in the early stages of the business. The term Teenoi, meaning "the little one" or "youngest sibling," symbolises both his support and influence, embodying a sense of care and mentorship.[1]

History

[edit]

Suki Teenoi began as a family-operated business in a rental building located in Bang Khen, Bangkok, Thailand, under the ownership of Nuttamon Phisankitchawanit. The restaurant later expanded by opening a second branch in an old club, which has a large area with high ceilings, a lot of dining tables, and parking facilities.[2]

The company experienced substantial growth, with revenue increasing from 499 million baht in 2019 to 1.572 billion baht in 2021. In 2022, a significant milestone was reached with J Mart's acquisition of a 30% stake, valuing the company at 4 billion baht. As of December 2022, Suki Teenoi operated 42 branches in and around Bangkok.[3][4][5]

Founder

[edit]

In 2018, Ms. Nutthamon founded "Suki Teenoi" after completing her bachelor's and master's degrees abroad, she began her career at the age of 22 as an entry-level employee responsible for managing luxury imported brands. After three years in her career, she realised that she wanted to open her own business.[2]

At that time, She developed an interest in entrepreneurship. She became particularly interested in the restaurant industry, as her family had previous experience in this field through their now-closed restaurant, “Ruen Pun Ya.” [2]

After consulting with her family, she decided to establish a restaurant model that would be easier to manage, both in terms of ingredients and personnel, with the goal of expanding the business across multiple locations. As a result, she chose to open a "suki" restaurant.[2]
