Simon Olsson (born 14 September 1997) is a Swedish professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Eredivisie club Heerenveen and the Sweden national team.[1]
Club career
[edit]Born in Linköping, Olsson started with local team IK Östria Lambohov.[2] He then moved to Karle IF, where he met fellow footballer Mohanad Jeahze.[3] After Karle IF, he joined AFK Linköping in the third division, which was a merger club consisting of his former team IK Östria Lambohov.[4] He attracted interest from many Swedish teams, but chose to move to Allsvenskan team IF Elfsborg's youth team in 2014.[5][6]
Olsson signed his first professional contract in the autumn of 2016, and on 5 September 2016 made his senior debut in a cup match against IK Gauthiod that finished in a 7-0 victory for Elfsborg, coming on for Simon Lundevall.[7] Olsson made his Allsvenskan debut on 18 September 2016, in a 5-0 victory against Falkenbergs FF.[6] His breakthrough came in the following season, in which he started 25 matches and got 2 goal contributions.[6] On 12 March 2021, Olsson extended his contract with the club until 2025.[8]
On 2 August 2022, Olsson signed a four-year deal with Heerenveen in the Netherlands.[9]
International career
[edit]Olsson made his debut for the senior Sweden national team on 21 March 2024 in a friendly against Portugal.[10]
