ShorePoint Port Charlotte, is a for-profit hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida, owned by Community Health Systems. It was historically a non-profit Catholic hospital.

History

In 1962, Saint Joseph's Hospital was founded by the Felician Sisters and was built by General Development Corporation for the Catholic Church.[2] On June 4, 1962, it opened with 50 hospital beds.[1] It became Peace River Regional Medical Center when Health Management Associates purchased it from Bon Secours Health System in 2005.[3]

On June 27, 2013, Health Management Associates announced that Peace River Regional Medical Center would be rebranding to Bayfront Health Port Charlotte.[4] On July 30, 2013, it was announced that Community Health Systems would purchase Health Management Associates for $3.6 billion.[5] On January 15, 2014, the hospital officially changed its name to Bayfront Health Port Charlotte.[6][7] On January 27, 2014, Community Health Systems acquired Health Management Associates.[8][9]

On November 30, 2021, Bayfront Health Port Charlotte was rebranded as ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte.[10]
