Shakhen (Persian: شاخن)[a] is a village in, and the capital of, Shakhen Rural District[4] of Shakhenat District, Birjand County, South Khorasan province, Iran.
Demographics

[edit]At the time of the 2006 National Census, the village's population was 1,468 in 397 households, when it was in the Central District.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 1,226 people in 406 households.[6] The 2016 census measured the population of the village as 1,342 people in 422 households. It was the most populous village in its rural district.[2]
After the census, the rural district was separated from the district in the formation of Shakhenat District.[7]
