Shake, Rattle & Roll (SRR) is a Filipino horror anthology film series produced by Regal Entertainment, and formerly Athena Productions. Started in 1984, it was the longest-running film series in the Philippines. The series consists of 16 films, each containing three horror segments that involve Philippine mythological creatures and other monsters. All films of the series were official entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival, with the exception of the sixth and sixteenth installments, which premiered in January 1997 and November 2023 respectively.[1] The title is based on the song of the same name.
The first installment was released under the defunct Athena Productions, while all the succeeding installments are produced by Regal Entertainment.
As of 2024[update], there are sixteen installments of the film series, with the latest installment, Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme,[2] released on November 29, 2023. It is directed by Richard V. Somes, Jerrold Tarog, and Joey de Guzman, and stars Iza Calzado, Jane Oineza, and Jane de Leon.[3][4]

Television
Episodes of the Shake, Rattle & Roll films were aired in ABS-CBN, as part of the channel's Sabado Special block every Saturday.[1]
Other media
A full-length remake of the "Pridyider" episode, directed by Rico Maria Ilarde, was released on September 19, 2012.
An unofficial graphic novel adaptation of the second film was published on January 1, 2016. Titled Shake, Rattle & Roll: Kahindik-hindik na Klasikong Katatakutan, it features three stories that were adapted from the film. It was created by authors Adam David, Carljoe Javier, Mervin Malonzo, and Noel Pascual.
Themes
The subjects and themes featured in Shake, Rattle & Roll include Filipino supernatural beings (e.g. aswangs, engkanto, tiyanaks, etc.), superstitions, urban legends, cults and demonic possessions. Almost all of the films are set during the Christmas season. While the series typically premieres during that time, only the "Christmas Tree" episode in Shake, Rattle and Roll 9 contains Christmas-related content.[1]
