Shadhinata Complex (Bengali: স্বাধীনতা কমপ্লেক্স, lit. 'Independence Complex') also known as, Mini Bangladesh and formerly known as the, Shahid Zia Memorial Complex, is an amusement park situated in Chattogram, Bangladesh.[1]
Location
[edit]Shadhinata Complex is located near the Bahaddarhat Bus Terminal, Chandgaon Thana of Chattogram. Kalurghat Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra (lit. 'Kalurghat Independent Bengali Radio Station') is situated on its north-east side.[2]
History and naming
[edit]The complex was constructed and established in 2006 with the name, Shahid Zia Memorial Complex under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs in the name of former. President of Bangladesh Ziaur Rahman. It was later renamed as the 'Shadhinata Complex'. It is also known as Mini Bangladesh as the park's theme contains various miniature of sights and historical structures of Bangladesh.[3]
Structures
[edit]The complex includes miniatures of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Ahsan Manzil, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Curzon Hall, Kantajew Temple, Durbar Hall, Boro Kuthi, Chhoto Kuthi, Choto Sona Mosque, Lalbagh Fort, Somapura Mahavihara, National Martyrs' Memorial, Shaheed Minar, St. Nicholas Church, Chirantan Palli.[4][5]
There is also a 71 m or 230 ft tall tower named the "Shadhinata Tower" containing 23 floors, commemorating the 1971 Liberation War. The whole city of Chattogram, Karnaphuli river and Bay of Bengal is said to have been visible from the restaurant situated at the top floor of the tower.[6][7]
