Scandia is an agricultural village in Kitsap County, Washington. Scandia is a small village situated a few kilometers south of Poulsbo adjacent to Liberty Bay. It's heavily known for its agricultural opportunities based around the Big and Little Scandia Rivers, which have both their headwaters on the northern shores of Scandia.

History

[edit]

Scandinavian settlers arrived in the area around the late 1880's, shortly after they also settled further north in Poulsbo. They named it "Scandia" after the word for their homeland, "Scandinavia", and the village quickly turned into a hotspot for farming crops around Big Scandia River.

Geography

[edit]

Small, yet-rapid rivers, primarily the Big Scandia and Little Scandia Rivers flow through the central part of the village, Big Scandia being in the west, and Little Scandia in the east. They are the main reason why Scandia was incorporated and settled as a village, because of the agricultural opportunities influenced by the rivers' forested banks. There is also small mountains scattered across the village.
