The Sarodiya Brothers (Arka Roy and Shounak Roy) are students of Indian classical music. They are the disciples of Sarod Maestro Padma Bhushan Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta.
Achievements
[edit]Both brothers were born in South Twenty Four Parganas, West Bengal, India. Arka Roy was born in January 2003 and Shounak Roy was born in December 2006. They started to receive training in Indian Classical Instrumental Music–Sarod from Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta since their very tender ages of 4 and 3 years respectively.[1]
Arka Roy is a recipient of the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) Scholarship (SYA 2021–2022) under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in the field of Hindustani Music Instrument (Sarod).[2] Arka Roy is also the Winner (String Instrument Category) in The Doverlane Music Conference Talent Search Contest 2022–23.[3]
Shounak Roy is a Scholar at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, West Bengal, India and is receiving training under Guru Shri Abir Hossain who is a disciple of Padma Bhushan Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta and Padma Bhushan Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty.[4] Shounak Roy is one of the musicians selected Nationwide for Sri Shanmukhananda Bharat Ratna Dr. M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship in Music from Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai, India.[5] Shounak Roy is a recipient of The Telegraph Online Edugraph 18 under 18 Award – 2024.[6] Shounak Roy has also won The Telegraph School Awards for Excellence - Anirban Sinha Award in 2023.[7]
Notable performances
[edit]They performed Sarod Jugalbandi at the KBR Bimalarpan Sangeet Mahotsav organised by Team Bhilai Anthem and Welfare Society, Bhilai in association with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) - Bhilai Steel Plant, Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya (IKSV), Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh and South-Central Zone Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.[8] They also performed Sarod Jugalbandi at the "Basant Ki Bahar" Music Concert organized by SwarDarbar at the G.D. Birla Sabhagar, Kolkata.[9]Other notable performances include: Performance at Periodical program of The Doverlane Music Conference and The Doverlane Music Academy, [10] etc.
