Sarah Schupansky (born August 25, 2003) is an American college soccer player who plays as a forward for the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Early life
[edit]Schupansky was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one of three daughters born to Robert and Susan Schupansky.[1] She played soccer from an early age on a recreational team coached by her father. At age 12, she joined the Riverhounds Development Academy affiliated with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. She played multiple positions before settling on forward, saying she admired United States national team players Alex Morgan, Rose Lavelle, and Crystal Dunn.[2]
Schupansky captained her high school team at North Allegheny High School, which she led to win back-to-back Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League 4A championships in 2019 and 2020, being selected to two all-state teams and a United Soccer Coaches All-American in 2020.[1][2] She committed to the University of Pittsburgh as a freshman in 2018 when the Panthers were beginning to be rebuilt by new head coach Randy Waldrum.[2]
College career
[edit]Schupansky joined the Pittsburgh Panthers in the spring of 2021 ahead of the fall season. She scored her first college goal in overtime to defeat Oklahoma State and ended the season with seven goals and six assists.[1][3] She scored seven goals and led the team with eight assists as a sophomore in 2022.[1] That season, the Panthers made their first NCAA championship appearance in team history, with Schupansky scoring in their second-round win against Georgetown.[4]
Schupansky played across the attack and midfield as a junior in the 2023 season, registering 11 goals and 14 assists.[1][5] She helped lead the team to its first ACC tournament semifinal and the NCAA tournament quarterfinals.[5][6] She was selected to the All-ACC first team, becoming the first Panther to be so honored.[7] She played for USL W League side Racing Louisville FC in the summer 2024 season.[8]
