Sarah Toscano (born 9 January 2006), known professionally by the mononym Sarah, is an Italian singer-songwriter. In 2024 she won the twenty-third edition of the talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi.[1]

Early life

Born in 2006 in Vigevano, in the province of Pavia,[2] Sarah Toscano is the third and youngest child of Petra Polomsky, a German teacher originally from Stuttgart, Germany, and Marco Toscano, an entrepreneur in the leather sector; she has an older sister, Giulia, and an older brother, Lorenzo.[3][4] At the age of five, she began studying the piano and soon began participating in and winning international competitions.[5][6] Devoted to karaoke, her father decided to have her listen to Andrea Dulio, an international manager, who took her to a recording studio, where he had her record her first songs.[7][8]

Passionate about tennis, during her childhood she played in the women's C series, winning the provincial tennis championship in 2020 with the Sporting Club Selva Alta.[9][10] She attended the Bachelet linguistic high school in Abbiategrasso (MI),[11] interrupting her studies in the fifth year to participate in the twenty-third edition of Amici di Maria De Filippi.[12][13]

In 2022 she was selected among the twenty finalists of the Area Sanremo[14] singing competition and although she was not selected as a competitor in Sanremo Giovani, she won the plaque dedicated to Vittorio De Scalzi.[15][16] On October 21 of the same year his first EP, Riflesso, was released, containing six tracks and produced by the Universal Music Italia label, which included his first single "9 giugno".[17][18]

2023-2024: Participation in Amici 23 and Sarah

In September 2023 she participated in the auditions of the twenty-third edition of the musical talent show broadcast on Canale 5 Amici di Maria De Filippi, then entering the initial phase.[19][20] In March 2023 she gained access to the evening phase of the program by joining the team led by professors Lorella Cuccarini and Emanuel Lo[21][22] and the following May she reached the final, emerging as the winner.[23][24]

During the program he published several unreleased songs, including "Touché",[25] "Viole e violini",[26] "Mappamondo",[27] "Voilà" (live version of the song of the same name by French singer-songwriter Barbara Pravi),[28] "Sexy magica"[29][30] and "L'ultima volta",[31] which later includes all six of them in the EP of the same name,[32] published on May 17, 2024 by the Warner Music Italy label,[33] which then debuted at number 12 on the FIMI chart.[34] The song "Sexy magica" then reached number 83 on the FIMI chart.[35]

2024–present: Unreleased projects

From June 15 to August 28, 2024, Sarah Live Summer 2024, her first summer tour, took place from Rome to Monterosso al Mare (SP).[36] In the summer of the same year, she performed in music event, including the Future Hits Live,[37] RDS Summer Festival,[38] TIM Summer Hits, Battiti Live,[39] 105 Summer Festival[40] and Yoga Radio Bruno Estate.[41]

On July 16, 2024, he opened the concert of the Black Eyed Peas in Milan.[42] On July 26, he released the single "Roulette", included in the streaming reissue of his self-titled EP.[43][44]

In August of the same year she was recruited by Apple Music in the portal for emerging talents.[45][46] In September she paraded for the first time at the 81st Venice International Film Festival,[47][48] at the Billboard Italia Women in Music at the Manzoni theatre[49] and at Milan Fashion Week, both in Milan.[50]

On September 29, 2024, during the first episode of the twenty-fourth edition of Amici di Maria De Filippi,[51] he previewed his new single "Tacchi (fra le dita)", which will be released on October 4.[52][53] In November she collaborated with Horda to launch winter sweatshirts signed by her, along with a quote from the song "Tacchi (fra le dita)".[54]
