Career

[edit]

Simmons began busking on the main street of Newtown, Sydney in his mid-teens and laer formed L.U.S.T. who toured with bands like The Screaming Jets. While a member of Sydney rock band The Art, he toured with them through Europe and the US as support to Faster Pussycat. The Art planned to relocate to Los Angeles in 2013, but only Simmons went through with the move.[2] While in the US he worked with Tommy Henriksen and Gilby Clarke, with The Raskins as their guitarist on a tour with Mötley Crüe, and recorded an album with Motochrist. He joined Richie Ramone's band in 2016.

In 2018 he formed the rock duo The Hots with his then-wife Foxie Kelly,[3] but during COVID lockdowns in Los Angeles the couple split. In 2022 he was invited to join Faster Pussycat.[4] Following an Australian tour with that band in early 2023, he joined Rose Tattoo.[5]

Simmons recorded a solo album in LA during 2022; after returning to Australia permanently in 2023, he formed Ronnie Simmons and the Redback Spiders in 2024 to perform songs from the album. It is set to be released in October 2024.[6]
