Robin Michael Garcia is a Filipino political scientist and public affairs adviser. He currently serves as the president and chief executive officer of WR Advisory Group.

Early life and education

[edit]

Garcia completed his bachelor's degree in development studies from De La Salle University-Manila in 2010, where he was awarded the Gawad Mag-Aaral (Distinguished Student) Award. He went on to earn his master's degree in public administration, with a major in public policy, from the University of the Philippines-National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG) in 2013. He further pursued his education at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, where he received his Doctor of Philosophy in international politics degree from the School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) in 2017. During his time at Fudan, he was recognized with the Dean's Award for Academic Excellence.[1]

Career

[edit]

Garcia leads WR Advisory Group as its president and chief executive officer. He is also affiliated with WR Numero Research, where he serves as chief executive officer. In this role, he has emphasized the importance of utilizing local data for nuanced research, particularly advocating for the creation of indigenous models that better reflect local development realities at the barangay and municipal levels.[2]

Commentary and research

[edit]

Garcia has established himself as a prominent voice in international relations and policy analysis, particularly focusing on Asian geopolitics. He has published analyses on various topics, including:

  • Taiwan-China relations and their implications for Philippine foreign policy
  • Regional security issues in Southeast Asia
  • Evidence-based policymaking at the local government level

His work emphasizes the importance of local data and context in policy development. As stated during a public policy webinar, Garcia advocates for research that creates "a nuanced picture of development realities on the ground," focusing on models that fit local contexts and respond to the experiences of barangays and municipalities.[3] Garcia has also contributed to discussions about Philippines-Taiwan relations under the administration of William Lai.[4]

Garcia stressed that WR Numero Research Chief Executive Officer and webinar reactor Robin Michael Garcia stressed the importance of local data for nuanced research. “If you look at the data and experiences at the local level, you create a nuanced picture of development realities on the ground. That gives you something close to an indigenous model that fits the local level and responds closely to the experiences of barangays and municipalities,” he said. [5]
