Rita Edochie// (born 16 April 1964)[1][2][3] is a Nigerian film actress.

Early life and education

Rita is from Anambra State, in the southeast region of Nigeria[4] and is Igbo.[5] She was born on April 16, 1968, to Mr. and Mrs. Okwudili in Onitsha, Anambra State, her hometown. However, she spent her early years under the care of her uncle, Okika.[6]

In 2016, she revealed that she was sexually assaulted in primary school and gave birth to a child.[7][8]

She earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka in 1990.[9]

Career

Edochie first worked as a radio presenter for Anambra State Broadcasting Service,[3] where she continued until the state reduced staffing in late 2008.[4] She began her acting career with minor roles in 1990 and has had a long career in Nollywood films,[10] including Love Delayed, Onye-Eze, No More War, Chain Reaction, 1999, Abuja Boys and Censored Love.[3] She has become known for playing mothers.[1]

In 2016, she received the Ambassador For Peace Award of the Universal Peace Federation.[11]

Personal life

In December 1990, she married Tony Edochie, the younger brother of Pete Edochie; they have four children (Judith, Great valentine edochie, Amanda and Chukwuemekalum).[12][2] She is the aunt of Yul Edochie.[13]
