Richard Straub is an Austrian business professional and the founder and president of the Peter Drucker Society Europe, the Global Peter Drucker Forum,[1] and the Vienna Center for Management Innovation.

Life and work

Richard Straub was born in Steyr, Upper Austria in 1946. After completing his studies in law, he initially worked in the Austrian nationalized industry at Alpine Mountain AG.

In 1973, he joined IBM. He held various positions within IBM, including building up the IBM PC business in Austria and serving as the assistant general manager PC for IBM Europe, Middle-East, and Africa based in Paris. Straub later assumed the role of regional director for Eastern Europe.

In 1994, Straub was appointed as the global head of IBM internal education, focusing on sales, marketing, and industry training. He held this position until 1996 when he became the IBM Chief Learning Officer, based in White Plains and Paris.

In 2001, he transitioned into a line management role as the European head of a global innovation unit called Learning Solutions. After 32 years he retired from IBM.

Straub represented IBM in various industry initiatives with the European Commission. He served as the chair of the Career Space Consortium, , and the European Learning Industry Group (ELIG).

Additionally, in 2005, he presided over the Open Innovation Strategy and Policy Group (OISPG).[2]

Since 2006, Straub has been a self-employed "portfolio worker" with part-time leadership roles in international nonprofit organizations.

He served as a member of the executive team at the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and held the position of secretary general of the European Learning Industry Group (ELIG). He also became an advisor to the chairman of IBM Europe.[3]

In 2009, Straub founded the Peter Drucker Society of Austria.
