Redfern (surname)

Redfern is a surname with links to several places including Derry in Northern Ireland[1] and the county of Lancaster in England. It has also appeared as Redfearn and Redferne.

The surname was found on a will accepted at a will in the city of Chester in 1238 under the name De Redeven implying possible French Norman origins.[2]

Genealogical testing suggests that the surname possibly originated in the county of Derry in Northern Ireland.[3]
