Plot
[edit]In Recommended for You,[7] a young man spends a quiet evening alone surfing the internet and watching online videos when something unusual happens.[8] As he browses through the videos he recommends, a small image catches his eye—an unfamiliar, eerie image that looks strangely personal, as if it had been chosen just for him. Curious and slightly uncomfortable, he clicks on the video, which starts innocently but quickly turns dark and mysterious.[9]
It seems to focus on the details of her life in surprising and unnerving ways, suggesting that someone or something is watching her closely. As he views the content, it becomes increasingly disturbing; the disconnect between his personal internet and personal life as creepy paranoia sets in when he realizes they may have lost the video as a trap, meant to take him down a digital rabbit hole he couldn't escape. With each click, he sinks deeper into a web of suspense, where the boundaries between reality and the virtual world blur, leaving him wondering if he’s ever really alone—or if he’s part of someone else's game.[10]
The short film explores themes of digital privacy, surveillance, and the unpredictable dangers of seemingly harmless online recommendations, using the recommended videos feature as a portal to a chilling, voyeuristic experience.[11]
Production
[edit]The film was produced by Drishyam Films, a leading production company known for its work on quality Indian films. The short film focused on suspense and psychological depth, an approach that reflects Films commitment to innovation and high production values Visual effects (VFX) were handled by Reflection Pictures Studios especially in the creepy, digital atmosphere of the film. Through improvised effects the studio added a surreal layer to the scenes, blurring the lines between the protagonist’s online world and reality and heightening the tension of that experience.[12]
The collaboration between Drishyam Films and Reflection Pictures Studio resulted in a visually gripping short film that effectively conveys its themes of technology, isolation, and suspense. The film’s stylistic choices, combined with the VFX, underscore the protagonist’s descent into a digital maze, making Recommended for You a captivating and unsettling cinematic experience.[13]

[edit]It was released on July 20, 2022 on Amazon MiniTV.[14] On this day, the short film became available for viewing and quickly attracted attention due to its unique story and intriguing execution. A growing selection of Indian short films exploring contemporary themes has been released, and the portrayal of psychological tension in a minimalist and entertaining format has been well received.[15]
