Raul Cilloniz (born in Lima, Peru) was a Peruvian race car driver. Cilloniz raced in the 1959 Daytona 500, the inaugural edition of the race. Cilloniz, along with his teammate Eduardo Dibos, became the first South Americans to race in NASCAR, and the only ones until Christian Fittipaldi in 2002.[1] Driving the #38 Ford, he finished 18th in the qualifying race, giving him the 35th starting spot for the 500. In the main race, Cilloniz made his way up to 12th, 8 laps down to winner Lee Petty. [2]
