Rachel's Ginger Beer (RGB) is a ginger beer company based in Seattle, in the U.S. state of Washington.[1] As of 2015, the company had 80 employees, a flagship store at Pike Place Market, two additional bars, and a 2,500-square-foot production facility in south Seattle.[2]
History
[edit]Rachel Marshall started making ginger beer after she was introduced to it in Germany.[3] She returned to Seattle and started selling ginger beer at local farmers' markets and as a stand at Pike Place Market.[4]
RGB's flagship store opened at Pike Place Market in July 2013.[5][6] The business began operating on Capitol Hill in 2015,[7] at University Village in the University District in 2017,[8][9][10] and in Denny Triangle in 2019.[11][12][13] Stacey Rozich, a Seattle based artists, designed murals for all four locations. [6][10][13][7] RGB has also operated in Portland, Oregon.[14][15][16] This location closed after two years because it did not generate enough profit and stretched the companies resources much too thin. [17]
RGB was founded by Rachel Marshall with help from her partner Adam Peters.[3] Marshall met her partner in Germany while she was living there. Rachel Marshall grew up on Whidbey Island in Washington State.[3] Marshall and Peters are the parents to two children.[3] Marshall died in 2023 at the age of 42 due to liver failure.[3]
RGB was not the only restaurant business that Marshall was involved in. She was a co-owner of two bars in Seattle with Kate Opatz:[3] Montana Bar and Nacho Borracho.[18] In 2013, Seattle Metropolitan named Marshall one of 50 "most influential" people in Seattle.[19]
