"Push 2 Start" is a song recorded by South African singer Tyla. It was released in tandem with the deluxe edition of her self-titled debut studio album on 11 October 2024, by FAX and Epic Records. It is a reggae-infused afro-pop and amapiano song about Tyla imploring her partner to give her affection.

Background and composition

[edit]

Tyla stated she simply could not move on after making "Push 2 Start" and wanted to include it on her deluxe album Tyla+ along with other songs, such as the amapiano song "Shake Ah" and contemporary R&B song "Back to You", all three were included on the deluxe album. "Push 2 Start" is a reggae-infused Afropop and amapiano song that focuses on Tyla imploring her partner to give her affection.[4][5][6][7]

Music video

[edit]
Tyla dancing with her dancers behind a fan donning heels inspired by Rihanna, critics compared the scene to Beyoncé's video for her 2003 single "Crazy in Love"[8][9]

The music video directed by Aerin Moreno premiered on 8 November 2024 (SAST).[10] The video is set at a car wash where Tyla dances with back up dancers near a vibrant backdrop. Later she spray paints herself similar to how a car would be painted and dances on a car carrier as the video concludes.[11] Several critics compared the visuals of the music video to the likes of other female artists, most notably Rihanna and Beyoncé, pointing out similar scenes from the music videos for their songs and "Shut Up and Drive" and "Crazy in Love", emphasizing the 2000s pop and R&B music video vibe.[12] [13][14]Tyla also wears heels inspired by Rihanna in the music video.[15]
