Founded by the esteemed educationist and philanthropist Dr. Nissar Ahmed, Presidency University is a private university established under the Presidency University Act (Karnataka State Act No. 41) in 2013 and is a member of the Presidency Group of Institutions. Located in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. The university offers courses in engineering, management, design, computer applications, information science, commerce, law, and media studies.[2][3][4]
History
[edit]The Presidency Group began its journey with the establishment of its first school in 1976 and has since expanded to include eight schools, four colleges, and a university across various locations in Bengaluru and Mangaluru, Karnataka. The university is dedicated to innovation and research-driven teaching methodologies, offering a contemporary, industry-ready curriculum. Committed to delivering interdisciplinary, outcome-based education, it integrates theoretical knowledge and experiential learning to prepare students for real-world challenges.
Academics
[edit]The various schools, like the Presidency School of Computer Science and Engineering, Presidency School of Engineering, Presidency School of Information Science, Presidency School of Management, Presidency School of Commerce and Economics, Presidency School of Law, Presidency School of Design, and the Presidency School of Media Studies, offer a diverse array of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs designed to cater to the interests and aspirations of students across multiple disciplines. The undergraduate programs equip students with essential knowledge and skills, making them industry-ready, while the postgraduate programs delve deeper into specialized areas, fostering advanced understanding and expertise. These programs encourage inquiry and innovation, enabling students to engage in meaningful projects that contribute to their fields and promote academic excellence. Campus
[edit]Set on 100 acres of lush greenery, the university is located in Itgalpura village near Rajankunte, along the Yelahanka-Dodballapur highway in northern Bengaluru. The campus is 25 kilometers from Kempegowda International Airport and 30 kilometers from the city center.
The university places a strong emphasis on creating a conducive and supportive environment for effective teaching and learning. To achieve this, it offers state-of-the-art infrastructure, including lush green landscapes, digitally advanced classrooms, cutting-edge computers, multimedia and engineering laboratories, a Center of Excellence for Research, an internship and placement cell, a 650-seat auditorium, a 500-seat amphitheatre, seminar and conference halls, a cafeteria, a student mess, and various food outlets across the campus. Additionally, the university provides indoor and outdoor sports facilities, an ATM, and reprographic centers. Dedicated accommodation is available for both boys and girls, and a fleet of over 60 buses ensures convenient transport for students and faculty across the city.

The Presidency Launchpad Association, a 'Technology Business Incubator' at Presidency University, is a non-profit organization registered as a Section 8 company. It offers comprehensive guidance and mentorship to aspiring entrepreneurs, equipping them with the resources and support needed to launch, incubate, and scale their businesses. By providing state-of-the-art facilities, expert advice, and access to a network of industry professionals, the initiative fosters innovation and encourages the development of ventures that prioritize societal impact and environmentally sustainable technologies. Entrepreneurs are supported in every stage of their journey, from ideation and prototype development to securing funding and navigating the challenges of growing a successful business in today's competitive landscape.[5]

It supports both students and faculty in fostering global engagement through a variety of opportunities. This includes establishing new partnerships with renowned institutions worldwide and maintaining existing collaborations. OIA works closely with diverse stakeholders across the university’s schools and departments to enhance these global initiatives.
Presidency University has forged partnerships with over 120 leading institutions across 35 countries, promoting academic and research cooperation. These collaborations offer strategic opportunities for students and faculty from partner universities, enabling them to pursue higher education and research initiatives globally for mutual benefit. The ISR Cell at Presidency University was formed on March 1, 2024, driving the initiatives of Presidency University under five thematic areas: Shiksha (education), Samarthya (skills and livelihood development), Sanrakshan (environment protection and rejuvenation), Sewa (socio-economic development), and Swasthya (healthcare). These initiatives reflect the university’s commitment towards creating a more sustainable and better future.
