Selected (Article/Picture/Bio)
[edit]So I've made the "Selected" parts of the section link to a Maximum of 6, as opposed to the 5 it had been. How the random part works is that there will be a collection of all of the same number. To best represent all of New England, each State is going to have an "allotted number" for each Article/Bio/Picture which have been mixed up to make sure that someone viewing the Portal aren't given 3 pieces of information about Rhode Island and none about Vermont. Achowat (talk) 17:37, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Connecticut - Article/1, Bio/4, Picture/5Maine - Article/2 (Appalachian Trail; blurb needed, Bio/5 (James G. Blaine; blurb needed), Picture/1Massachusetts - Article/3, Bio/6, Picture/2 [[:File:John F Kennedy Official Portrait.jpg; blurb needed)New Hampshire - Article/4, Bio/3 (Doc Adams; blurb needed), Article/6Rhode Island - Article/5, Bio/2 (Ambrose Burnside; blurb needed), Picture/4Vermont - Article/6, Bio/1, Picture/3
For the time being, I simply put the highest Priority, highest quality page up for each (as decided by their WikiProjects) but there's no reason that needs to stay that way. Achowat (talk) 17:42, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
So, I've realized that that system is probably not the best course of action, so I was bold and changed it. Because we're such a large and diverse portal (encompassing no fewer than 6 huge WikiProjects) what I've done instead just listing every FA that falls under those 6 WikiProjects. Any person becomes a Bio, any non-person an Article. Similiarly, and Featured Picture about New England (or a New Englander) will be listed under SPs, in an arbitrary order. Portal Peer Review

With 20 Selected Bios, 20 Selected Pictures and 20 Selected Articles (With 8 more FAs to be made into SAs) Now a full compliment of 27 Selected Articles, I'm looking for some guidance before attempting to take this Portal to Featured status.

DYKs
[edit]So there's some work to be done searching WP:DYKA for articles about New England or New Englanders. There are about 10 from July 2012 and if we can just get, say 60 DYK hooks (ideally the 60 most recent) then we can set up a Random like we have for SAs, SBs, and SPs. Notice from the Portals WikiProject
[edit]WikiProject Portals is back!
The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.
As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.
There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.
Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.
And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.
From your friendly neighborhood Portals WikiProject. Hope to see you there. Sincerely, — The Transhumanist 07:39, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
