Nice job!
wow, nice job visviva! i just hope that enough people remain interested to maintain & grow this project. thanks for the hard work. Appleby 17:19, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
many lists are going to be appropriate for both the "topics" box and the "list" box. should the link be duplicated or is one preferred over the other? i would think we should fit them into the topics box, but it is nice to have a comprehensive list of lists too. Appleby 01:17, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
also, sorry if i'm adding too many links, or if i'm interfering with visviva's intended design. feel free to prune away the overgrowth & duplicates.Appleby 01:39, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- No worries. Looks good. Thanks for your work. -- Visviva 06:56, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
the list of lists & the topics list are indeed overlapping, & it seems to me that the lists box should logically be merged into the topics box. it's actually hard to find other country portals with a list of lists box. & is "selected biography" the right box title? shouldn't it either be filled with a biography, or be retitled "bibliography"? also, maybe switch places of "topics" & "things you can do"? these seem to be well-developed, perhaps overdeveloped, examples: Portal:Australia, Portal:India, Portal:London, Portal:France.Appleby 05:06, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- Sounds fine; the lists and biography boxes just happened to be in the standard skeleton. Heh, I must have misread that -- I thought it said "selected bibliography." :-) The "lists" section was just copied from the List of Korea-related topics, and we also have Category:Korea-related lists, so it's no great loss if it isn't included here. -- Visviva 13:15, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Nice work Visviva & Appleby! I don't think many people, including Korean editors, are aware of this yet though. Let's try to spread the knowledge ;). Again, very nice work. Deiaemeth
i wonder if there's a way to integrate Template:History of Korea into Template:Korea topics, so that the work in creating & maintaining the lists are not duplicated? in other words, can we just delete the history part of the Topics box & replace it with the existing History of Korea template? Appleby 22:45, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I see that Wikipedia:Meta-templates considered harmful has been marked "rejected," so I guess there's no longer a rule against that sort of thing. However, the list of topics currently in Template:History of Korea is kind of frighteningly long, and might tend to unbalance the other template. Also something would need to be done about the different formats (unless we changed Template:Korea topics to columns). On balance, I think it's probably simpler to maintain them separately; the list of major history articles shouldn't change too often. :-) -- Visviva 04:40, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
Selected article nominations
about time for a new article here. not sure this is how it's supposed to work, but i'm going to delete the outdated nominations below, for readability. please revert to date-this stamped version if, for example, you want to create a special archive of past nominations.Appleby 01:53, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
can someone think of a good modern or very ancient korean nomination? the nominated article, biography, and image are all from the joseon period. Appleby 01:59, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Korea Train Express to go with madang nori & jang yeong-sil, i'm leaning towards the korean cuisine or ktx article. Appleby 20:48, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Selected picture nominations
- I'll take a shot at the second one. That's what's called a Farmers' Dance, as performed in what looks like a parade. Traditionally farmers going out to work in the fields in the morning would do this dance. Supposedly also coming home in the evening, although that's a little hard to believe, given that Korean farming is very hard work. I actually saw a few guys doing that, although without all the cool costumes and instruments - just their farm clothes, one guy had a streamer on his hat, another had a gong. That was about it, but still, this was for real. I saw this in Choongyang Myun, Hwasun Gun, Cholla Nam Do in the early 70s. --Dan 23:29, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Selected biography nominations
He was one of the greatest Korean scientists, but people rarely find out about him. I worked hard on that article, too. (Wikimachine 05:17, 22 April 2006 (UTC))
- nice work, wikimachine. it could use a little cosmetic clean-up, though. maybe ask around for more attention to the article? Appleby 02:25, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
I think so too. (Wikimachine 03:46, 26 May 2006 (UTC)) I fixed a lot of it, and I think this is very much like perfection. So if anybody wants to take a look at it.... Thanks (Wikimachine 19:04, 26 May 2006 (UTC))
- I think the Jang young sil article would be a good featured article because he is a really outstanding scientist. Good friend100 00:44, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Object: A worthy topic, but why submit it without proper copy-editing? First, fix the numerous stubby paragraphs and sections so that it flows nicely. Then network to find a good copy-editor; quite a few hours' work required. The first thing I read was: "The date of Jang's birth (and also his death) is unknown". Why not: "The dates of Jang's birth and death are unknown." Let us know when it's fit to read, please. Tony 08:07, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- This is what I got when I nominated Jang Yeongsil for featured article. I truly agree. I hope that people contribute more than just minor edits to this article because it's of worthy topic. (Wikimachine 16:35, 16 June 2006 (UTC))
links to this portal
it seems there are no links to this portal from either north korea or south korea articles. should be do something like City of London? maybe even from seoul & pyongyang, but that may be too spammy. Appleby 02:32, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
HELLO??
The featured articles have been up on the Korea portal for weeks
Why can't we change it and put something new? The Hangul article and Kim Jong Il article are getting too repetitive. I think we need to change the featured articles. User:Good friend100 14:37, June 21, 2006
- help us out, good friend.
- looks like the bio will be Jang Yeong-sil. please look the article over for any more clean-up work.
- the madang nori pic seems to have the most support, but we don't even have an article for madang nori. in fact, i can't find it mentioned even in Culture of Korea. if the pic is gonna be featured, we need a good descriptive caption with at least one link to more information. dan's comments help, but we need to craft a caption-style write-up. please help.
- i agree that the Seven Year War is important, & should be a feature article soon. but i'm not sure if it should go in this time, because 1. it's still being actively worked on, & was recently renamed, which i'm not sure will stick; & 2. the bio & the image are already from the joseon period. for balance, we should try to rotate pre-joseon, joseon, nk, & sk topics. while work on imjin war continues, hopefully to be featured next time, can you suggest other articles for this time?
- thanks. Appleby 18:01, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- I totally agree. Seven Year War and Jang Yeongsil articles need some clean up. I am getting Jang Yeongsil more elaborated and detailed right now. (Wikimachine 02:22, 23 June 2006 (UTC))
I think Jang Yeongsil is now complete. (Wikimachine 03:50, 23 June 2006 (UTC))
- it's already on the portal. thanks for the hard work. Appleby 16:38, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- I believe we can work hard to push for a featured article on the main page on any of the articles we have proposed. Good friend100 15:59, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
