Proposals process
[edit]To those involved with the creation of this portal: please be aware that new portals may not be created until they have been approved at Wikipedia:Portal/Proposals. Fortunately, this portal seems in good nic, but please remember the proposals forum in future.--cj | talk 07:24, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
- (Even as the issue is moribund, I thought I ought to reply, if only because Cyber's is the only message on the talk page.) I replied to CJ on his talk; it should be noted, of course, that the proposals process has since been deprecated. Joe 04:25, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Portal Improvement Comments and Suggestions
[edit]Canadianshoper 23:26, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Sholdn't portals have places for users to vote on selected pics, articles and so on? Also, the text of these things should be shortened. The news should be archived so it only displays 5 or 6 at a time, and the quotes section should only show one quote at a time, but automaticcally changing every few minutes. Some of these things I know are basics in other portals, and I can do them myself, but the shape of the portal tells me that it might be better left alone.
Ice hockey in Wyoming
[edit]Hello! I want to know if there are any ice hockey teams in the American state of Wyoming. Thank you! --189.30.69.114 (talk) 00:01, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- The University of Wyoming plays at the collegiate level in Division 3 (American Collegiate Hockey Association). As for minor league teams, I don't think so, but there are possibly small regional or a state-wide leagues. − Twas Now ( talk • contribs • e-mail ) 17:05, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Quotes
[edit]In the related wikis, the quote section redirects to Ice Hockey quotes. There is no Ice Hockey quotes page. I suggest redirecting it to Hockey quotes. I can't alter the template as I am not a registered user (and really, have no desire to become one). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.24.238.102 (talk) 05:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Special Czechoslovakian Entry Draft before the 1981-82 NHL season?
[edit]Today I surfed legendsofhockey.net and found some information about Jiri Bubla and Ivan Hlinka, both hockey players of Czechoslovakian descent. By reading their respective articles it was said that both where claimed in a "Special Czechoslovakian Entry Draft" before the sttart of the 1981-82 NHL season. It was the first time I heard about that draft. Does someone have further information? Thanks! --Thomas ✉ 15:09, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- I've never heard of it, but your best bet is to poke around WT:HOCKEY; this portal talk page doesn't receive as much attention as the other page. Maxim(talk) 16:35, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! Couldn't find anything better than this. --Thomas ✉ 17:22, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Hockey at Tropicana Field
[edit]Hi!
I'm doing some research for the German Wiki and have got a question regarding Tropicana Field. Has the ice rink at the stadium been discarded after the Lightening moved to Ice Palace? Or is there still the possibility to play hockey at Tropicana Field? As far as I know, the Tropicana-Lightning relationship has only been a temporary solution. Perhaps you are able to help me. thx, Fabi --84.168.202.207 (talk) 09:29, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- I personally have no clue; you're better off to ask at WT:HOCKEY, as it receives much more attention. Maxim(talk) 20:25, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Link to portal in project banner?
[edit]Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a link to this portal in the project banner? I've seen other projects do this and it often leads, at least me, to visit the portal. --Krm500 (talk) 08:02, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Herb Brooks Arena
[edit]I would be glad to help contribute to this article, however, I thought I should discuss some of these things here. For starters, the article is misleading in the fact that Herb Brooks Arena is a part of four arenas in the Olympic Center. So should I create a new article and have Herb Brooks Arena redirect to the new one? Any input would be great Dukemmm (talk) 03:49, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- Um, I don't know. Try to sandbox it for later. -- ISLANDERS27 15:31, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Proposal on Naming Conventions
[edit]Hello, all!
Please go here for a renewed discussion on relocated sports teams. Thanks! BigSteve (talk) 15:02, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
- It's about time someone got to work with this. -- ISLANDERS27 16:23, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
File for Portal
[edit]The image file, commons:Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Ice_hockey_puck.jpg, which was used as the image for the portal link on many article pages, has been deleted. See example at List of team payrolls in the NHL in this diff. A bot will most likely be needed to readd an image into back into the {{Portal}} template on the ice hockey articles. Any ideas on which image should be used to replace it? — MrDolomite • Talk 19:24, 18 May 2010 (UTC) Some suggestions below:
- File:2hockeypucks.jpg
- File:WikiProject Ice Hockey logo.svg
- File:Ice hockey puck.svg
- More at commons:Category:Pucks and commons:Category:Ice hockey equipment and commons:Category:Ice hockey
- I would probably use the pucks to keep it distinct from the wikiproject logo. -DJSasso (talk) 19:27, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

"Ishockey" or "Hockey" in Sweden ?
[edit]The portal states that the sport is referred to as "hockey" in Sweden, this is however untrue. The term "hockey" exists, yes. But "ishockey" is both formal, and the most commonly used word. Exceptions for the very low populated area Norrland, which cover 2/3 of Sweden's territory, but just have 1 out of 9 million inhabitants, and where the winters are very cold and long (from early November to mid April or longer, and an has an avergage temperature of -10C during January and February). Further south (below the 60th latitude) "ishockey" is the most common term and in southernmost of Sweden "hockey" is almost never used. Unlike in Finland, but like Norway and Denmark (association) football is the by far most popular sport in Sweden. An icehockey game in Stockholm may attract 6000-8000 attenders, but that's nothing in comparance with football in the same Capital city where football attendances often is above 25.000. Boeing720 (talk) 02:19, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- Finland is also listed there. While here icehockey is indeed the top team sport, we have our own word ice hockey (jääkiekko, literally "ice puck"), and when someone talks about "hockey" in Finnish, (s)he is most certainly talking about field hockey (maahockey in Finnish, literally "land hockey").
- Or does it refer to English language use in Finland? Then it could possibly be true. 82.141.95.68 (talk) 12:20, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
- This reply is years late, but yes it refers to English Language use. -DJSasso (talk) 11:14, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Game-winning goal scorer
[edit]In some pages we need to list the game-winning goal scorer. I have a particular question when it comes to a shoot-out win in the NHL. Assume the shoot-out goes as follows: GOAL1,SAVE,GOAL2,SAVE. The game ends and no third round is needed in the shoot-out. Who is credited with having scored the game-winning goal in the shoot-out, goal-scorer 1 or goal-scorer 2? I am just curious. I am not arguing whether it's an official NHL stat or not.AntropovNikki (talk) 21:09, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- Neither as game winning goals are not awarded for goals scored in the shootouts. -DJSasso (talk) 11:15, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
