The word

[edit]

The word civilizations is spelled incorrectly.

The previous post is correct, civilisations should be spelled civilizations.--Mrperdew 21:17, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Civilisations is the British spelling and acceptable here. --Aude (talk) 21:20, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I somehow doubt the above comment. Google "Civilisations" and you'll see that there are hardly any hits. If it were an actual spelling of the word, I'm guessing there'd be at least two pages of hits. Someone should unprotect this page and change it.
What? hardly any hits? Google returns 20,000,000 hits when searching "Civilisation". [1] Sure, "Civilization" returns more [2] - 40 million. But, "Civilisation" is acceptable. See American_and_British_English_spelling_differences#-ise_.2F_-ize --Aude (talk) 17:08, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - per WP:ENGVAR; "civilisation" is the correct UK spelling. Nikkimaria (talk) 01:09, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reformatted the intro subpage

[edit]
  1. Updated intro text with current text from WP:LEAD from main article, History.
  2. Added randomized intro image selection, for increased dynamism for the main portal page, with all free use images taken from main article, History.
  3. Listed (no-transcluded) link to this intro image subpage on the intro page, at Portal:History/Intro/Image.
  4. Kept the prior 2 paragraph format.
  5. Added categorization of the intro subpage to Category:History portal.

Add: “History can provide us with an understanding of the events in the past so we can learn from them and incorporate them to similar human situations today, even if the learning and incorporating is unconsciously done.
