Linking and edit protection

[edit]

"AOL" and "WSJ" should be linked, the acronyms are not immediately obvious.

Also, I would state that this doesn't need to be protected at all. This page, as far as I know, only appears on editing subpages of CE, meaning it's "circulation" is drastically less then, say, CE or any of its subpages. Should I take this up here, or at RFPP, or where? 68.39.174.238 00:21, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the links. If you want this to be unprotected, then it would be best to bring it up first at the main talk page for the portal. However, like Tariqabjotu said in his protection edit summary, I see little reason for it to be unprotected. Any edits can be requested like this one. Harryboyles 07:17, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"or regional"

[edit]

Fifth line, "or regional" should be removed, since the regional sublists have been removed. 76.117.247.55 (talk) 14:54, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: The restriction should be still standing. Leujohn (talk) 13:28, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of recent deaths

[edit]

I specified the criteria to include recent deaths, since "extreme prominence" seems to be a bit too vague, and in my opinion has resulted in many unnecessary inclusions of people both here and in Recent deaths. However, I welcome any additional suggestions of inclusion criteria for recent deaths. Mikael Häggström (talk) 22:17, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Recent deaths are fine, but why someone posted ongoing events???? Can we delete it? Especially that there are more important events than intervention in Yemen. User:TigerTatoo 14:42, 22 May 2015
@TigerTatoo: The top box is shared with the Main Page, so the place to discuss it would be Talk:Main Page. These "Edit instructions" are for the daily sub-pages such as Portal:Current events/2015 May 24. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:32, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Instructions had improper semantics and contradicted our MOS

[edit]

re: the edit I just made, the HTML small tag is for fine print, not changing the size of text (see MOS:SMALL) and in MediaWiki software, the semi-colon ( ; ) should be followed by colons ( : ) for individual list items in a definition list, not asterisks that begin an unordered/bulleted list ( * ) (see MOS:PSEUDOHEAD). I have changed it to strong text followed by an ordered list because these lists frequently have nested ordered lists in a hierarchy. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 00:40, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Wakari07:. See the correct semantics at MOS:DLIST. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 00:42, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: Now the headers are in boldface followed by an unordered (bulleted) list which may be nested, but I think you're right on the syntax: mw:Help:Formatting indeed says the same. We must all have been wrong for the past 10 years or so. Thanks for pointing this out. As far as I understand now, I agree. Wakari07 (talk) 01:41, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Wakari07, Thanks for the kind words: one of the best birthday gifts I've gotten this year. Have a good one and stay safe. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 02:01, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Add to articles

[edit]

Could we add a section in the edit instructions which gets editors to add certain events to list articles? I'm mainly thinking of List of explosions, List of building or structure fires, and List of traffic collisions (2000–present) because almost every event I see is not added to these articles when they should be. Thanks, greyzxq talk 18:35, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion: change "Disasters and accidents"

[edit]

Perhaps "Disasters and incidents" would be more suitable? We should generally be trying to avoid the word "accident." It's akin to saying "disasters and mistakes"
