New portal articles

[edit]

If no one objects I will start adding the following new articles to the portal:

Comments are still needed at Portal:Cheshire/Suggest on all the other articles/pictures currently suggested. Thanks, Espresso Addict (talk) 22:23, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've just done an update to news & DYKs; I'll add the following, when I get time to write blurbs, unless anyone objects:
I'm not competent to write a blurb for Eddie Johnson (English footballer), but if anyone could write something a little longer than the lead then I'm happy to do the update to the portal, as it's a teensy bit complicated.
There are still several old suggestions with no comments or ambivalent comments if anyone cares to comment. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 11:56, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's great work! Just to let you know that the listed buildings for Runcorn now come under two lists: Listed buildings in Runcorn (urban area) and Listed buildings in Runcorn (rural area).--Peter I. Vardy (talk) 16:19, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I can see you've been very busy in my absence! I've fixed the links to point directly to the urban area list where they occur in the portal. Do you want to suggest the new rural area list as a separate selected article? Espresso Addict (talk) 14:53, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why not? It's Listed buildings in Runcorn (rural area). And how about Listed buildings in Widnes? They're both FLs. Good to have you back! --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 15:36, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a little chary, for balance reasons, of having three articles on Runcorn and two on Widnes; the current total is only 16. What do you think of the other articles that I've suggested? Espresso Addict (talk) 14:51, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're right! I was really just informing folk (and showing off!). I'm very happy with all the suggestions above. Incidentally I'm currently working on Norton Priory in an attempt to get it to FA. Also John Douglas (architect) looks set to be Today's Featured Article on the main page on April 11th, his 180th birthday.--Peter I. Vardy (talk) 16:49, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Another big update, with the following added:

...as well as several pictures and DYK sets. We're now up to 22 articles, 13 biographies, 21 images & 27 DYK sets. I've also slightly changed the portal look (though retaining the colour scheme), and added a couple of rotating maps to the lead and a static box with a clickable map showing the post-2009 administration. New "In this month" section

[edit]

I've started the "In this month" section; if I've got the code right, it should update automatically. The current list of events is at Portal:Cheshire/Calendar/Archive. The month by month coverage is rather uneven -- we could do with some more, particularly for November & September. To suggest new events, use the appropriate part at the bottom of Portal:Cheshire/Suggest. Espresso Addict (talk) 14:11, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposing Selected Lists

[edit]

I'd like to suggest a new portal section, Selected Lists. We could include the current Featured Lists of listed buildings and castles (and possibly the John Douglas works lists, although they're not exclusively Cheshire), as well as some other lists which are complete and referenced, for example, the three scheduled monuments lists. This would allow us to showcase the growing number of FLs from the project, without compromising the article nature of the Selected Articles. Espresso Addict (talk) 15:27, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
