Ancient Egypt

Needed articles.

We should have an article on every pyramid and every nome in Ancient Egypt. I'm sure the rest of us can think of other articles we should have.

Cleanup.

To start with, most of the general history articles badly need attention. And I'm told that at least some of the dynasty articles need work. Any other candidates?

Standardize the Chronology.

A boring task, but the benefit of doing it is that you can set the dates !(e.g., why say Khufu lived 2589-2566? As long as you keep the length of his reign correct, or cite a respected source, you can date it 2590-2567 or 2585-2563)

Stub sorting

Anyone? I consider this probably the most unimportant of tasks on Wikipedia, but if you believe it needs to be done . . .

Data sorting.

This is a project I'd like to take on some day, & could be applied to more of Wikipedia than just Ancient Egypt. Take one of the standard authorities of history or culture -- Herotodus, the Elder Pliny, the writings of Breasted or Kenneth Kitchen, & see if you can't smoothly merge quotations or information into relevant articles. Probably a good exercise for someone who owns one of those impressive texts, yet can't get access to a research library.

New hieroglyph template

I have created a new template at Template:Infobox hieroglyphs based on its German wiki equivalent which enables article titles to be displayed in hieroglyphs and other scripts as desired.

In addition there is a temporary one at Template:Infobox Hieroglyphen to facilitate the copying of existing infoboxes from German Wikipedia with minimum knowledge of German and display them in English Wikipedia.

Please check out the infoboxes; if they are felt useful I am happy to fine tune them. --Bermicourt (talk) 18:22, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

radiometric data

Some time back I posted a link to an article from Archaeometry about radiometric dating showing that if the Hyksos reign came to an end with Thera, Ahmose's dates have to move back to just before 1600 BCE. Here is another article with radiometric information which should be taken into consideration. Status report from the Portals WikiProject

Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018.

Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, and design the portals of the future.

As of April 29th, membership is at 56 editors, and growing.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for each component of portals.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

Huni in Saqqara King List

A21 A25 A23

In Saqqara King List the name of Huni is given on a picture using A21 while on Huni page it's given with A25. In fact when looking at a very old photograph ("Saqqara-deRouge.jpg") it gets obvious that this hieroglyph depicts an upright standing human. The most fitting one is A23 among those in Gardiner list - by view and by meaning. So which one may be valued as correct on a scientific base? Shift Infobox styles into css file

In German wiki I just developed a module being able to write vertical cartouches. I will port this here. It will use an Egyptology/styles.css file as a template style sheet.
