- 1954 - Hurricane Hazel made landfall in North Carolina and rapidly moved north through the eastern United States and Canada. Hazel killed about 100 people in the United States and severe flooding killed a further 99 in Toronto.
- 1985 - Typhoon Cecil (track pictured) made landfall over in Vietnam as a Category 3 typhoon, where casualties had a total of 702 people.
