- 1663 – The British Parliament passes the second Navigation Act requiring that all goods bound for the American colonies have to be sent in English ships from English ports.
- 1949 – Initial flight of the de Havilland Comet (pictured), the first jet-powered airliner.
- 1972 – The F-15 Eagle flies for the first time.
- 2002 – Ukraine airshow disaster: A Sukhoi Su-27 fighter crashes during an air show at Lviv, Ukraine killing 85 and injuring more than 100 others, the largest air show disaster in history.
- 2005 – STS-114: NASA grounds the Space Shuttle, pending an investigation of the external tank's continued foam-shedding problem. During ascent, the external tank of the Space Shuttle Discovery sheds a piece of foam slightly smaller than the piece that caused the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster; this foam does not strike the spacecraft.
- 2006 – The Federal Republic of Germany is deemed guilty in the loss of Bashkirian 2937 and DHL Flight 611, because it is illegal to outsource flight surveillance.

- 1862 – The first railway post office car in North America is operated over the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad; the mail is transferred to stagecoach in St. Joseph, Missouri, for the rest of the journey to California.
- 1982 – Fire destroys the Harrisonburg, Virginia, offices of the former Chesapeake Western Railway, which had been merged into the Norfolk and Western Railway in 1954.
- 1996 – The Talleyrand Terminal Railroad (a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Inc.) begins operations in Jacksonville, Florida.
- 2005 – 2005 Jaunpur train bombing: An explosion destroys a carriage of an express train near the town of Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, killing 13 people..

- 1940 – Rail traffic is suspended in France between French-retained and German-occupied territories.
- 1987 – British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and President of France François Mitterrand sign the agreement to build Eurotunnel, the tunnel under the English Channel (pictured).

- 1871 – The Staten Island Ferry Westfield's boiler explodes, killing over 85 people.
- 1971 – Apollo program: Apollo 15 Mission with David Scott and James Irwin on Apollo Lunar Module Falcon, land with first Lunar Rover on the moon.

- 1940 – A doodlebug train in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio collides with a multi-car freight train heading the opposite way, killing 43 people.
- 1951 – Japan Airlines (pictured) is established.
- 1973 – A Delta Air Lines jetliner crashes while landing in fog at Logan Airport, Boston, Massachusetts killing 89.
- 1999 – Discovery Program: NASA intentionally crashes Lunar Prospector the spacecraft into the Moon, thus ending its mission to detect frozen water on the moon's surface.
