What about this? It's a photograph of the construction of Brunel's Royal Albert Bridge on the Great Western Railway in 1859. Although it's perhaps not especially attractive, it's certainly encyclopedic, showing the construction of a famous bridge, and the photograph's age makes it quite interesting.
