[edit]- 1872 – Shimbashi Station opens and becomes the first railway terminal in Tokyo, Japan.
- 1899 – North British Railway submits its proposal to absorb the Aberlady, Gullane and North Berwick Railway in Scotland by a stock exchange transaction.
20th century
[edit]- 1969 – Seibu Railway's Chichibu Line opens in Japan.
- 1980 – U.S. President Jimmy Carter signs the Staggers Rail Act into law, significantly deregulating the American railroad industry.
21st century
[edit]- 2004 – The Canadian Transportation Safety Board issues its final report on the CN accident of May 2, 2002; the report blames the truck driver's fatigue as the cause of the accident and admonishes fire crews for less-than-optimal training in hazardous materials.
