[edit]- 1856 – The Scottish Midland Junction Railway is merged into the Aberdeen Railway to form the Scottish North Eastern Railway.[1]
- 1893 – Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway opens La Grande Station in Los Angeles, California.[2]
- 1895 – Service begins on the Chicago "L" Humboldt Park branch.[3]
- 1900 – Construction is completed on the White Pass and Yukon Route between Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada, and Skagway, Alaska, United States.
20th century
[edit]- 1940 – Rail traffic is suspended in France between French-retained and German-occupied territories.
- 1991 – The European Council adopts directive 91/440/CEE relating to the development of European railroads.
21st century
[edit]- 2010 – Phase 2 of Wuhan Metro Line 1 connecting Dijiao Station to Huangpulu Station and connecting Zongguan Station to Dongwudadao Station opens.

- 1801 – George Bradshaw, English cartographer, printer and publisher and the originator of the railway timetable, is born (d. 1853).
- 1830 – Robert Harris, president of Northern Pacific Railway 1884-1888, is born (d.1894).
- 1870 – Henry Fowler, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Midland Railway 1909–1923 and of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway 1925–1931, is born (d. 1938).
