[edit]- 1851 – The Chicago and Rock Island Railroad, the earliest predecessor of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, is incorporated.
20th century
[edit]- 1912 – Official opening ceremonies are held for the Usambara Railway in German East Africa.
- 1957 – Southern Pacific 4-6-2 number 2472 (now preserved; pictured) is retired from revenue service.[1]
- 1995 – Robert Krebs announces that Santa Fe Railroad stockholders overwhelmingly approve the merger of the Santa Fe with the Burlington Northern Railroad.
