[edit]- 1881 – The New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railway Company (later known as the Nickel Plate Road) purchases the Buffalo, Cleveland and Chicago Railway
20th century
[edit]- 1916 – Oris Paxton Van Sweringen and his younger brother Mantis James Van Sweringen purchase a 75% controlling interest in the Nickel Plate Road from William Kissam Vanderbilt for $8.5 million.
21st century
[edit]- 2002 – Line 2 of the Bilbao metro opens connecting from Urbinaga to Line 1 at San Inazio.
- 2005 – The transport ministry of Bulgaria issues the first freight transport license in that country to a private company, the Bulgarian Railroad Company, to operate on the nation's rail network.
