• May 1, 2010 – A car bomb fails to detonate in Times Square.
• May 10, 1837 – New York City banks fail in the Panic of 1837, and unemployment reaches record levels.
• May 12, 1789 – The Society of St. Tammany is incorporated by soldiers of the American Revolutionary War. It later becomes a group of political bosses, known as Tammany Hall.
• May 26, 1977 – George Willig climbs the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
