• 5 August 2003 – A suicide bomber detonated a car bomb outside the lobby of the JW Marriott Hotel, in Mega Kuningan, South Jakarta, killing twelve people and injuring 150.
• 17 August 1945 – The Proclamation of Indonesian Independence (pictured) was read at 10:00 on Friday in Sukarno's house at 56 Jalan Pegangsaan Timur.
• 28 August 2023 – Jabodebek LRT opened to the public, and the third light rapid transit in Indonesia.
