- January 7, 2011 – Dozens of Christians in Iran are arrested, after security forces forcibly entered their homes and verbally and physically abused them, in a crackdown on converts from Islam and evangelical groups, which an Iranian official who confirmed the arrests called an "enemy cultural invasion."
- January 16, 1979 – Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran flees Iran with his family, relocating to Egypt after a year of turmoil.
- January 20, 1981 – Iran releases the 52 Americans held for 444 days within minutes of Ronald Reagan succeeding Jimmy Carter as the President of the United States, ending the Iran hostage crisis.
- January 25, 1988 – U.S. Vice President George H. W. Bush and CBS News anchor Dan Rather clash over Bush's role in the Iran–Contra affair during a contentious television interview.

- February 1, 1979 - Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini returns to Tehran, Iran after nearly 15 years of exile.
- February 2, 2009 – Iran's first domestically constructed satellite, Omid, is launched.
- February 3, 1979 – Khomeini creates the Council of the Islamic Revolution.
- February 4, 2008 – Iran launches the Kavoshgar-1 research rocket to inaugurate a newly built space center.
- February 7, 1979 - Supporters of Khomeini take over the Iranian law enforcement, courts and government administration; the final session of the Iranian National Consultative Assembly is held.
- February 10, 1979 - The Iranian army mutinies and joins the Islamic Revolution.
- February 11, 1979 - Khomeini seizes power in Iran, overthrowing Mohammad Rezā Shāh Pahlavi.

- March 16, 1939 - Princess Fawzia of Egypt marries Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran.

- April 1, 1979 - Iran's government becomes an Islamic Republic by a 98% vote, overthrowing the Shah officially.
- April 18, 2005 - Five people die in ethnic clashes in Iran's south-west Khuzestan province.
- April 20, 1925 - Iranian forces of Rezā Shāh occupy Ahwaz, and arrest Sheikh Khaz'al.
- April 24–April 25, 1980 – Operation Eagle Claw, a commando mission in Iran to rescue American embassy hostages, is aborted after mechanical problems ground the rescue helicopters. Eight United States troops are killed in a mid-air collision during the failed operation.

- May 3, 2004 - Pas Tehran become 2003-2004 Iranian Premier Soccer League Champions.

- June 21, 1978 - 1978 Iranian Chinook shootdown: Iranian helicopters stray into Soviet airspace and are shot down.
- June 28, 1987 - Iraqi warplanes dropped mustard gas bombs on the Iranian town of Sardasht in two separate bombing rounds, on four residential areas. This was the first time a civilian town was targeted by chemical weapons.

- July 31, 1987 - Four hundred Iranian pilgrims are killed in clashes with Saudi Arabian security forces in Mecca.
- July 3, 1988 - Iran Air Flight 655 is shot down by a missile launched from the USS Vincennes.

- August 3, 2005 - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad takes office as the 6th President of Iran.
- August 19, 1953 – Cold War: The CIA helps to overthrow the government of Mohammed Mossadegh in Iran, and retain Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi on the throne (see Operation Ajax).
- August 20, 1988 – The Iran–Iraq War ends, with an estimated one million lives lost.
- August 25, 1941 – WWII: Operation Countenance begins with United Kingdom and Soviet forces invading Iran.

- September 8, 1978 – Iranian Army troops open fire on rioters in Teheran, killing 122, wounding 4,000.
- September 16, 1941 – Shah Reza Pahlavi of Iran is forced to resign in favor of his son Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran, under pressure from the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union.
- September 22, 1980 – The command council of Iraq orders its army to "deliver its fatal blow on Iranian military targets," initiating the Iran–Iraq War.

- October 26, 2005 - Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad calls for Israel to be "wiped off the map" at "World Without Zionism" conference in Tehran, Iran, and condemns peace process. MEMRI translated Ahmadinejad's words differently: "Imam [Khomeini] said: 'This regime that is occupying Qods [Jerusalem] must be eliminated from the pages of history.' This sentence is very wise. The issue of Palestine is not an issue on which we can compromise."
- October 31, 1980 - Reza Pahlavi, eldest son of the shah of Iran, proclaims himself the rightful successor to the Peacock Throne.

- November 1, 1979 – Iran hostage crisis: Iranian Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini urges his people to demonstrate on November 4 and to expand attacks on United States and Israeli interests.

- December 6, 2005 - An Iranian C-130 Hercules airplane crashes into a ten-story building in a civilian area of Tehran, the capital of Iran, killing all 94 people aboard and 34 residents of the building - a total of 128 people.
- December 26, 2003 - A massive earthquake devastates southeastern Iran. 26,271 people were killed in the city of Bam.
- December 27, 1934 - Persia becomes Iran.
