Volcanoes are common geological characteristics of Indonesia's landform. Due to active tectonic movement under Sumatra island, Bukit Barisan mountain range was formed 1,700 km (1,100 mi) north to south. Among 35 active volcanoes in Sumatra, one of which is Sinabung (pic) in the North Sumatra province.
