[edit]- 1900 - The Brooklyn Dodgers sell John McGraw, Wilbert Robinson and Bill Keister to the St. Louis Cardinals for $15,000. McGraw and Robinson refuse to report.
- 1936 - Pitcher Dizzy Dean ends a well-publicized holdout by signing a one-year, $24,000 contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.
- 1942 - The Brooklyn Dodgers purchase Frenchy Bordagaray from the New York Yankees.
- 1962 - William DeWitt buys the Cincinnati Reds from Powel Crosley for $4.625 million.
- 1974 - The New York Yankees purchase Elliott Maddox from the Texas Rangers for $60,000. Maddox proved to be a great defensive outfielder as well as hitting .303 in 1974.
- 1974 The Chicago Cubs trade Jim Hickman to the St. Louis Cardinals for Scipio Spinks.
- 1978 - The New York Mets trade Bud Harrelson to the Philadelphia Phillies for a minor leaguer.
- 1990 - Howie Spira is arrested for extorting money from New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.
- 2000 - The St. Louis Cardinals trade Kent Bottenfield and Adam Kennedy to the Anaheim Angels for Jim Edmonds.
- The Chicago Cubs trade Rodney Myers to the San Diego Padres for Gary Matthews, Jr..
