[edit]- 1886 - The Cincinnati Red Stockings of the American Association is sold by Aaron Stern to Louis Huack, a wealthy brewer and banker.
- 1895 - The National League restricts the size of gloves for all fielders, save catchers and first basemen, to 10 ounces, with a maximum circumference of 14 inches around the palm.
- 1901 - The National League Rules Committee decrees that all foul balls are to count as strike balls, except after two strikes.
- 1907 - The New York Yankees trade Joe Yeager to the St. Louis Browns for Branch Rickey.
- 1908 - The sacrifice fly rule is adopted.
- 1909 - The New York Giants release Joe McGinnity.
- 1935 - Babe Ruth signs a contract with the Boston Braves.
- 1937 - The Negro American League announces the schedule for their inaugural season.

- 2002 - The Houston Astros buy back the stadium naming rights to Enron Field from bankrupt Enron for $2.1 million. The stadium will be known as Astros Field, until the rights are resold.
